The lovely folks over at Style Me Pretty featured my sister’s wedding! Can you even handle how gorgeous Hailey looks? What a day, what weather, what a PARTY.
Continuous cheers to our partners in long distance crime and one of my favorite couples on the planet.

As much of an Austin hater as I’ve become lately…
<Can you believe the traffic on Mopac? 114 degrees in February? Why is that house so expensive - this isn’t California! Shit, why are there so many Californians here? Where did all these shiny shirt dudes come from? Enough with the G-D food trucks. What happened to the days when chicken cones only came from Hudson on the Bend and ACL was 1 weekend? These girls think they’re “so Austin” because they wear headbands across their foreheads.Torchy’s now has 18 locations?!>
... I am a RAVING JEALOUS LUNATIC inside every time some big event happens and I’m not there. In the sun. On a rooftop. Drinking a Lone Star tallboy.

Coach Taylor at Salt Lick. I’ll just leave this here.

Ehrmagerd well played Hopdoddy!
we start each day with wide-eyed opportunities for learning
with a curiosity to discover
a responsibility to explore
and with a couple of breakfast tacos
what starts here changes the world
The only failure from Hailey’s bachelorette party is that we were unsuccessful in stalking Ryan Gosling.
Dinner at Casa Colombia with the future Mr. and Mrs. T. Love being in Austin.

15. Texas. All the food in Austin is dirt cheap and impossibly good, and when I went to Franklin BBQ I deliberately tried to give myself a heart attack by stuffing my face with brisket and very small bourbon pies. The women there are not unattractive, and the folks all look extremely content with their lives. Meanwhile, 20 million people voluntarily cram themselves into a New York City subway car every morning wanting either to kill everyone around them or to kill themselves because killing yourself is kind of easier. Austin is better. And I like that the University of Texas has the balls to cause entire conference shifts without actually moving anywhere. They just break apart alliances and leave other schools bankrupt for the sheer joy of it. That’s my kind of heartless bureaucracy.
Home from Texas, back to the grind. Namaste, y’all.
My girls. Loving me some mother/daughters time.
[Mom, Hailey, and me at Westcave Cellars Winery out in Dripping Springs. My dear friend Kate’s parents have an amazing spread out there, and the wine is fantastic. My personal favorite: the Estate Tannat. Go see what the Fetty’s are all about!]
Hailey’s wedding is going to be gorgeous. And the beer won’t be awful, either…
Long weekend in Austin begins Saturday. CAN. NOT. WAIT. The problem with going to Austin is my tendency to over-plan. On the wishlist itinerary (for a weekend where we’re specifically not supposed to have a packed itinerary)…
Eat/drink:
- Reservations at Uchiko, which is especially exciting given Paul Qui’s Top Chef win tonight (WOO GO PAUL).
- More eating. Too many new places on my list, but definitely Foreign and Domestic and Easy Tiger.
- Visiting Hailey and Spencer’s wedding venue, florist exploration, tasting many cakes, shoe shopping.
- Day drinking. Patios. Day drinking on patios. Specifically, I’d like to enjoy some of Spencer’s (512) Wit and Bourbon Barrel Aged Pecan Porter, plus as many Lone Stars as I can manage.
- Whataburger, Sandy’s, Amy’s (Mexican Vanilla with Kit Kat), Chickfila, or maybe Chili’s queso if I’m feeling extra suburban.
Try to work off everything we ate/drank, fail:
- SWIMMING at our hotel’s indoor/outdoor heated pool. Remember swimming, Seattle people? Didn’t think so because you NEVER GET TO DO IT HERE.
- Town Lake? Pedernales? E-Rock? Hill country, for sure.
- Tennis. Get ready to get your asses kicked, ladies.
In general:
- Sunshine. It snowed today.
- Woman time. Mom, Hailey, and I don’t get enough time as just the 3 of us. Of course we love Daddy, Spencer, and Brian, but there’s something lovely and giggly and silly (and obnoxious) about girls-only. This also means we’ll most likely pass on (as much as enjoy partaking in all of these things) shooting clays and drinking cheap bourbon.
Austin friends: where must we eat and drink? It’s way too hard to balance my old favorites with the new goodies in only 4 days. Help me prioritize!
